Climbing above the clouds


Altitude sickness. This is how it feels near the top.


The moment that makes the climb worth it. "Goraiko" the rising sun from Mt. Fuji. We were above a sea of clouds and the sun first appears as glowing red crescent rising out of the clouds. Half a minute later it becomes it's full glowing self...too bright to look at. The sun is greeted with cheers of "Banzai", and morning greetings. "Ohayoo Gozaimasu." Since there are so many other climbers around there is a palpable sense of achievement as everyone cheers together and then turns to finish the climb and enjoy hot noodles at the top.
